It is possible to transmit sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) if you share sex 성인용품with other people. If someone who has a sexually transmitted infection (STI) uses a sex toy, her body fluids get on the toy and can pass the infection on to the next person who uses that sex toy. So if you’re using a sex toy with a partner, it’s important that you take steps to prevent the spread of STIs.

Wash your sex toys with mild soap and water after use and before they touch another person’s genitals. Putting condoms on sex toys can help keep them clean and prevent the spread of STIs. Just be sure to change the condom before the sex toy touches someone else’s genitals.

If you are using a sex toy in your anus, be sure to use plenty of lubricant.

The anus does not lubricate (get wet) on its own, like the vagina does. So inserting something into your anus without using lubricant can be painful, uncomfortable, and even unsafe. Never put a sex toy into the vagina that has been in the anus without first washing it or changing the condom. If germs from your anus find their way into your vagina, you could get virginities.

It’s also important to make sure that any sex toy you use in your anus has a wide base or some way to keep it from going inward. If a sex toy gets so far into your anus that you can’t touch it, you may need to go to a nurse or doctor to have it removed. This can’t happen with the sex toys you use in your vagina, because your cervix (the lower part of your uterus) blocks them and won’t let them through.

Don’t use silicone lube with your silicone sex toys (unless you use condoms on them).

Silicone lubricant can react with the solid silicone in your toy and damage it. It’s safest to use water-based lube with any sex toy (and any condom).

If you are inserting a sex toy inside your body (mouth, vagina, or anus), it is best to use one that is made of a material that is safe for your body and is non-porous (smooth). It can be 100% silicone (no silicone blends), hard plastic, stainless steel, aluminum, or shatter-resistant glass. Sex toys that are made of materials that are non-porous do not absorb (hold) germs and are easier to keep clean.

Sex toys that are made of materials that can be porous (such as silicone blends, synthetic jelly, PVC, vinyl, TPR, TPE, elastomer, and other rubbery plastics) can absorb germs that can cause infections, even if you wash your sex toy every time you use it. You can always use a condom on your sex toy to keep it clean and to keep germs out of your body.

To find out how to best clean and care for your sex toy, read the instructions that come with your sex toy or ask the staff at your nearest sex shop.

It’s best to always use sex toys that are made to be used this way, especially if you’re using them inside your body. It may not be safe for you to use homemade or DIY (DIY) sex toys, especially if they are easy to break, have loose, sharp, or rough parts, or are made of materials that are not sanitary (not good for health), or that can cause a reaction in your body.
